APVA Preservation Virginia
Preservation Virginia, a private non-profit organization and statewide historic preservation leader founded in 1889, is dedicated to perpetuating and revitalizing Virginia's cultural, architectural and historic heritage thereby ensuring that historic places are integral parts of the lives of present and future generations. Our mission is directly consistent with and supportive of Article XI of the Constitution of Virginia, benefiting both the Commonwealth and the nation. Preservation Virginia provides leadership, experience, influence, and services to the public and special audiences by saving, managing, and protecting historic places, and developing preservation policy, programs, and strategies with individuals, organizations, and local, state, and national partners.

Virginia Main Street
Since 1985, the Virginia Main Street (VMS) program has been helping localities revitalize the economic vitality of downtown commercial districts using the National Main Street Center’s successful Main Street Approach™. Main Street is a comprehensive, incremental approach to revitalization built around a community’s unique heritage and attributes. Using local resources and initiatives, Main Street helps communities develop their own strategies to stimulate long term economic growth and pride in the traditional community center -- downtown.

Virginia Downtown Development Association
The Mission of the Virginia Downtown Development Association is to bring attention to the significance of historic downtowns to Virginia's economic vitality and to enhance the effectiveness of organizations, individuals, and communities to foster vibrant economic development. VDDA advocates, supports, and promotes leadership in downtown revitalization throughout the Commonwealth. Participants include economic development professionals, appointed and elected city and county officials, downtown managers, planners, architects, business owners, tourism officials, chambers of commerce and others who are stakeholders in maintaining Virginia's vibrant historic downtowns. VDDA has successfully helped Virginia localities for over twenty-five years and offers many services to communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to advance the revitalization of our historic downtowns.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

Vernacular Architecture Forum
During the past few decades, interest in ordinary architecture has grown rapidly and in diverse directions. Scholars and field professionals apply the term "vernacular architecture" to a range of structures including traditional domestic and agricultural buildings, industrial and commercial structures, twentieth-century suburban houses, settlement patterns and cultural landscapes. The Vernacular Architecture Forum was formed in 1980 to encourage the study and preservation of these informative and valuable material resources.
